The SafeSite™ management team is comprised of experts in a variety of necessary disciplines that include medical, technical, logistical, and communications, who saw a need for a reliable, comprehensive testing solution for COVID-19.

Lauren Rogen Sexton, R.D., CDE: Co-Founder / CEO

Lauren Rogen Sexton, RD, CDE is a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and consulting nutritionist with over 18 years of experience in the medical field. She graduated from New York University in 2000 and completed her dietetic internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. She graduated magna cum laude from New York University. Lauren was COO and partner at Medical Nutrition Network in Los Angeles for over 4 years where she grew the company into a million-dollar medical practice, eventually selling the business. She has been practicing in the private sector for over 15 years, treating a range of health conditions across diverse populations and age groups.  

Carmen Kletecka, M.D.: Medical Director

Dr. Carmen Kletecka is an Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist with expertise in Molecular Pathology.  She performed her residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals of Cleveland and fellowship subspecialty training in Molecular Genetic Pathology and Surgical Pathology at TriCore Reference Laboratories and the University of New Mexico Hospital.  She is triple board certified by the American Board of Pathology and jointly by the American Board of Medical Genetics.  Dr. Kletecka is experienced  in molecular testing of oncology, hereditary disease and infectious disease specimens. She currently serves as the Medical Director of the VISN22 Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory in Los Angeles where she implemented molecular oncology testing by next generation sequencing for the VA system.  Previously, she served as medical director of Molecular Pathology at LSU University Medical Center providing infectious disease testing. 

Kenneth Starr, M.D.

Dr. Kenneth Starr is board certified in both Addiction Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He received his B.A. in Molecular Biology at the University of Colorado at Boulder and his MD from Texas Tech University. Dr. Starr is double board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine and spent 20 years as an Emergency Medicine Physician with experience in rural, suburban, and major trauma centers. He spent two decades teaching medical students, residents, nurse practitioners, physician assitants, and first responders. Since 2016, he has been a Medical Expert Reviewer for the Medical Board of California. He is currently on staff at French Hospital in San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande Hospital and Cottage Santa Ynez Valley Hospital in Solvang, California. 

Christine Altman: Clinical Director

For over the past 15 years, Christine has been involved with a wide range of healthcare organizations, functioning in clinical and operational roles. She earned a baccalaureate in Neuroscience at The College of William and Mary.  She completed a Master’s program in Health and Wellness Communications at Liberty University and attended Windsor University School of Medicine, where she graduated with her Doctor of Medicine diploma. 


While managing a group of private clinics in Chicago, she was given the opportunity to lead the vaccine program for one of the largest federally qualified health center groups in the San Francisco Bay Area. Soon thereafter, with the emergence of COVID-19, Christine’s responsibilities shifted to pandemic response including researching all public health recommendations, creating adapted workflows, recommending workplace infrastructure changes, PPE procurement, supply chain management, test site creation and management, review of available tests, and partnering with laboratories to provide adequate testing with appropriate turn-around time.

Alana Canann: Head of Product

 Alana Canann is from Costa Mesa, California. She attended UCLA where she received her B.S. in Cognitive Science with a Specialization in Computing in 2020. While there, she served as part of the leadership team and board member for UCLA UniCamp, an organization that hosts weeklong camp programs for foster youth, as well as a mentor for transfer students. Prior to joining SafeSite, Alana came from a multi-disciplinary background in digital strategy, chemical blending project management, and clinical trials. She was a Digital Product Strategist, managing multiple digital projects and collaborating with departments from development to UX teams to build a variety of products. She also has experience in the medical industry working as a Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist for phase II-IV clinical trials.
